For the first time in 15 years, this November, we’ll be voting to send a new Congressperson to Washington. Everyone agrees we need our next representative to focus on our residents in the 3rd District and represent our values in Washington. My solutions for our 3rd Congressional District are mainstream, common sense, bold, and aligned with the values of our community.
When Dan Lipinski lost his Primary Election, we lost one of the most commonsense, bipartisan voices in Congress and replaced him with socialist Marie Newman. Marie Newman’s plans aren’t focused on the 3rd District, they are taken from the most extreme leftists in Washington. Her plans for healthcare, the environment, the economy, and every other issue are aligned with socialists Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—they certainly don’t reflect the mainstream and commonsense values of our community. When I am elected to represent you in Congress, I will join the same caucus that mainstream Congressman Dan Lipinski was part of, “The Problem Solvers Caucus,” because I will be a Congressman that actually takes action and solves problems.
If I am honored to have your vote, I will bring mainstream, commonsense solutions to our nation’s capital that are aligned with the values of our 3rd District residents. When I go to cast my vote on legislation, my thought will be “does this make the lives of families and small businesses in our community better?” I will push forward legislation that lowers taxes, creates a better way of life for families and seniors, and improves the business climate of our district. I will ensure America stays energy independent while developing commonsense solutions to protect our environment. And I will address healthcare by improving services and lowering costs for all Americans.
The choice in this election is clear: If you want to improve our healthcare system, foster a thriving economy, and protect our environment, I am the candidate that will achieve these goals and protect our American way of life. If you want to at minimum double taxes on working families, socialize healthcare which will hurt our most vulnerable neighbors, and pursue an extreme environmental plan that destroys our economy, Marie Newman is your candidate.
I understand our community because I’ve been part of it for over 55 years, including as a leader on the Will County Board since 2012. Now I want to represent our community in Congress. I will take my approach of mainstream, commonsense solutions to the people’s house in Washington to represent you. I will be your voice, advocating for policies that align with our hardworking 3rd District values. Together, we will move our community forward.
When Dan Lipinski lost his Primary Election, we lost one of the most commonsense, bipartisan voices in Congress and replaced him with socialist Marie Newman. Marie Newman’s plans aren’t focused on the 3rd District, they are taken from the playbook of the most extreme leftists in Washington. Her plans for healthcare, the environment, the economy, and every other issue are aligned with socialists Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—they certainly don’t reflect the mainstream and commonsense thinking of our community. When I am elected to represent you in Congress, I will join the same caucus of mainstream Republicans and Democrats that Dan Lipinski was part of, “The Problem Solvers Caucus,” because I will be a Congressman that actually takes action and solves problems.
Marie Newman’s plans would at a very minimum more than double our taxes and completely change our American way of life. She would not only destroy local small businesses, she would destroy local unions. These plans are extreme—they will never work. We can’t afford to send someone to Congress who has set their sights on destroying what our families, workers, and small business owners have worked hard to build here in our community.
We have one of the most important transportation and logistics corridors in the nation right here in the 3rd District. Midway Airport flies over 20 million people around the world from right here in our community, sustaining and creating thousands of jobs that people rely on. Marie Newman’s campaign for Congress isn’t about the hard-working 3rd District union mechanics, car cleaners, baggage handlers, disease control inspectors, bus operators, ramp agents, flight attendants, food service workers and janitors; she is running on a socialist agenda being pushed by extremists out of Washington. Her plans would literally ruin the folks who work hard every day and drive our local economy. These are the exact working people who are pleading with Washington to focus on commonsense solutions rather than partisan politics, and I will provide those solutions.
Unlike Marie Newman, I have an extensive public record as an elected official who has brought forward mainstream, commonsense solutions to move our community forward. As a Member of the Will County Board since 2012, I’ve run up a record of accomplishments. During my tenure as Finance Chairman, we reduced tax rates 4 years in a row while improving services. We found waste in government and we cut it. We also reduced overtime in various county departments, saving taxpayers millions of dollars annually. While I worked to keep Will County fiscally on track, I oversaw the “Building Will County Financial Plan” to move our county forward. The plan included a new Public Safety Facility, a new 911 Center, a new County Court House, and a new county health center. We accomplished all this without a tax increase. That’s the type of leadership I will bring to Washington if you elect me the next Congressperson for the 3rd District.
We must have a better energy policy that considers our environment. In Will County, I am proud to be a Republican that is respected for protecting our environment. My comprehensive energy plan is meant to reduce our reliance on foreign oil, protect our environment, and unleash American innovation.
Our energy policy must take an aggressive and forward-looking approach. We must use all our nation’s resources and fully take advantage of our American ingenuity. Our policy must be comprehensive, knowing that we will not be completely changing from a fossil fuel-based economy overnight, but forward-thinking, knowing that we must move to more sustainable, renewable energy sources. No American energy plan is complete without the use of natural gas, solar, wind, and nuclear power. We can fully balance being energy independent, protecting our environment and growing our economy to create jobs for American workers.
Marie Newman’s plan, “The Green New Deal,” is completely unrealistic, irresponsible and would have devastating effects on our economy. Her plan would ban all oil production and eliminate the production of clean natural gas which has been a significant step in the United States’ recent success at reducing carbon emissions. It also would eliminate all nuclear energy, which is 100% emissions-free and makes up 50% of our energy in Illinois. It would make nearly every gasoline or diesel-powered car and truck illegal- unless it was retrofitted with a non-fossil fuel engine, forcing commuters and our truck drivers off American roads and grinding our supply chains to a halt at a time when we have learned just how much we rely on those supply chains and it would raise prices on nearly every single consumer good. The plan would require that we ‘retrofit every building in America,’ meaning that your house, apartment, and place of work would all need their heating and cooling systems removed and replaced with technology that would be much more expensive and isn’t even invented yet. It would bankrupt our airlines and force the construction of trillions of dollars of unrealistic and unwanted high-speed rail systems and kill off the largest employers in our district around Midway Airport. This extreme plan is not in line with the mainstream, commonsense values of our community.
Americans demand and deserve the best medical care in the world, and our healthcare system faces significant challenges with skyrocketing costs and high numbers of uninsured individuals. But that doesn’t mean we should tear down our entire healthcare system. Working people of the 3rd District should always be able to keep their employer-based and union-negotiated insurance. We can improve our current healthcare system with forward-thinking policies that lower costs and improve access while ensuring no one loses access to their doctors and all pre-existing conditions are covered.
Marie Newman’s “Medicare for All” plan is the failed plan of socialists Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that even many Democrats have rejected. It is not just radical policy, it’s dangerous and dishonest. This plan uses the name of a popular program to cover up the fact that it’s simply single-payer socialized medicine. The plan calls for $32 trillion of new spending in just the first decade. This would nearly double the total amount of money spent by the federal government annually, requiring massive tax hikes on all Americans, not just the wealthy. “Medicare for All” would severely limit access to doctors, stop people from being able to see their current physician, increase doctor and hospital wait times, and overload our emergency rooms.
We can do better. Republicans and Democrats must come together in Washington and bring forward a comprehensive solution that keeps the best parts of Obamacare, like protections for pre-existing coverage, while driving down healthcare costs.
Americans should be free to choose affordable insurance plans from anywhere in the country that meet the needs of their families. We must have increased insurance company competition which will lead to significant cost savings for 3rd District families.
Healthcare consumers must be allowed to see the actual costs of procedures before appointments. Healthcare is the only sector of our economy with a secret pricing scheme that makes people choose services without ever knowing the costs. When we let consumers see the prices of these services, they will be able to make better-informed choices for their families’ medical care while reducing their out-of-pocket costs.
Doctors also pay incredibly high medical malpractice rates, especially in the 3rd District, due to opportunistic frivolous lawsuits against our doctors. By enacting real tort reform measures on a federal scale, we will lower costs for doctors, which will lead to lower healthcare for all Americans.
By implementing mainstream, commonsense solutions in our healthcare system, we can ensure that all Americans have access to high quality, affordable health care that protects pre-existing conditions and remains the envy of the rest of the world.
Finally, we must stop outsourcing our over the counter and prescription drugs as well as medical equipment. We have learned during this COVID-19 pandemic that the United States can ill afford to be in debt to the Chinese and the Chinese Communist Party for life-saving drugs, medical devices, and personal protective equipment.
